Dr. Erica T. Liu is a Bay Area native who graduated with honors from the University of California, Berkeley with a double major in Neurobiology and Public Health. Following an enlightening career detour doing email marketing for Google, she returned to her path to medical school and has not looked back.
Dr. Liu completed her medical training at the University of California, Irvine, followed by an Ophthalmic Pathology and Research fellowship at the University of Utah, Moran Eye Center. She completed her Ophthalmology residency at Tufts Medical Center. A Californian at heart, she returned to The Golden State for a clinically and surgically intensive fellowship in Cornea, External Disease and Refractive Surgery at the Shiley Eye Institute of the University of California, San Diego. She has had extensive Trauma experience at the University of New Mexico Hospitals and cutting-edge Refractive Surgery training with the Navy Refractive Surgery Center.
Throughout her undergraduate and post-graduate training, Dr. Liu has been passionate about providing vision care for the underserved, advocating for patient rights and access to care. She has written multiple book chapters and has published both articles on advanced intraocular lens technologies and case reports in the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, American Journal of Ophthalmology Case Reports and the Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
Before becoming a surgeon, Dr. Liu had PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy) at the recommendation of her surgeon due to her refractive correction and thinner tissue. Having experienced PRK vision correction herself more than a decade ago, she is thrilled to be able to provide the same gift of hassle-free clear vision to others. She is excited that there are now more excellent options for her patients and has performed almost 10,000 procedures thus far in her career.
