Dr. Cao was born in China and moved to the United States with his family at the age of six. He grew up in Baltimore, Maryland, where he developed a passion for science and mathematics. He then pursued undergraduate studies at Duke University, where he graduated with distinction in Biomedical Engineering along with dual minors in Chemistry and Biology. Dr. Cao then went on to study Medicine at the Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, where he found the perfect intersection of his passion for surgery, cutting-edge technology, and ability to make a tremendous impact in patients’ quality of life, in the field of ophthalmology.

Dr. Cao pursued his interests in the field of ophthalmology with a post-doctoral fellowship at the Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute, where he worked alongside leaders in the field and published multiple manuscripts in top journals, including the Journal of Clinical Investigation, JAMA Network, and JCI Insight. Dr. Cao then completed his residency training in Ophthalmology at the nationally top ranked USC Roski Eye Institute, covering one of the busiest trauma centers in the country at LA General Hospital.

Dr. Cao specializes in cataract surgery, micro-invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGs), pterygium, as well as eyelid procedures. He is fluent in Mandarin Chinese. Dr. Cao aims to provide the best care to each patient and continues to seek ways to improve outcomes for every individual.

In his spare time, Dr. Cao enjoys spending time with family, playing badminton, and running around after his toddler son.
