Dr. Harshad Patel is an American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) board-certified ophthalmologist who strives to provide the best eye care for the entire family. He practices general ophthalmology and has a special interest in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus.
Dr. Patel grew up in Southern California and went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Genetics at UCLA. He attended medical school at University of Toledo College of Medicine and completed a Preliminary year at Loma Linda Medical Center. During his pre-liminary year, he was awarded by his peers to be “Resident Teacher of the Year.” He successfully completed Ophthalmology Residency at Kresge Eye Institute in Detroit, Michigan.
During his residency, Dr. Patel was not only voted by his class peers to be Chief Resident, but he received numerous other awards including “Most Compassionate Resident” and a research award for his work on Nutritional Optic Neuropathy.
He started practicing general ophthalmology in 2018 and during this time developed interests in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus and decided to pursue additional fellowship training. He matched and received his training in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus at the prestigious Jules Stein Eye Institute.
He was elected as the Vice Chair of the department of ophthalmology at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center from 2021 to 2023. He enjoys teaching where he trains Family Medicine residents and UCI pediatrics residents and was voted and awarded “Teacher of the Year” in 2022.
